Are You A Clinician With A Client Going Through Separation or Divorce?

Want to learn how to keep yourself out of hot water with these cases, deal with attorneys, and feel prepared for going to court?

Introducing the...

Dealing With Divorce Video Series

Dealing with court and attorneys is scary, and not something that clinicians have a lot of training or experience with before it happens. Every year, we get questions from colleagues about how to handle situations when they have clients going through separation and divorce.

That's why we created this course.

DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN GET PULLED INTO COURT AS A THERAPIST EVEN WHEN YOUR CLIENT SIGNS PAPERWORK THAT SAYS YOU DON’T GO TO COURT?

Many clinicians have no training on many topics related to divorce and separation, whether in graduate school or postgraduate programs. For example, we conducted a survey in NC, and 40% of respondents said they received NO graduate-school training in the assessment of high-conflict families, and about half reported receiving NO post-graduate training in either the assessment or treatment of high-conflict families.

Even fewer providers appeared to have received training in more specific areas such as parental alienation or court testimony related to divorce/separation.

While clinicians tend to feel more competent in some areas, like notetaking/record-keeping or managing intake and paperwork for individuals experiencing separation or divorce, they often don’t realize what they are missing in their process. And, based on our survey, many clinicians noted that although they preferred not to work with high-conflict cases or the courts, those cases tended to find them anyway.

So, if you want to learn how to...

  • Feel prepared for going to court

...you will benefit greatly from our Dealing with Divorce Series.

Dealing with court and attorneys can be scary, and it is not something that clinicians have a lot of training or experience with before it happens.  With this training, we want you to spend less time worrying and more time helping clients.

Therapists receive the highest number of board reports and are involved in the most litigation when they have divorce clients, especially high conflict divorce.

This series is designed to help keep therapists out of bad legal situations with these cases. We also want more therapists to feel comfortable helping these families rather than being scared away.
