KKJ Internship Opportunities and Expectations
Clinical Director – Dr. Katrina Kuzyszyn-Jones
Training Director – Dr. Julianne Ludlam
KKJ Forensic & Psychological Services offers a training program for practicum and intern students at the master’s and doctoral levels. KKJ’s program offers the unique opportunity to receive training in both forensic and clinical practice; trainees will assist with psychological/forensic evaluations and provide therapy services. Evaluations may be court-ordered, and students will be trained in structured interviews, parent-child observations, psychological testing, and report writing. Therapy services may include facilitating groups and workshops in addition to providing individual counseling for adults and adolescents.
Trainees will receive ongoing supervision and training for both areas of practice from two licensed clinical psychologists. We strive for a supportive, validating atmosphere that promotes effective learning and skill development.
Evaluations
We are primarily a forensic practice. Therefore, each student needs to be able to complete the following activities in order to be accepted to the site. Some evaluations are court ordered, and students must be permitted to be involved in these cases. One to two cases will be assigned per student.
Students will:
- 1Observe and conduct structured clinical and parenting interviews.
- 2Observe and co-facilitate case background interviews.
- 3Observe parent-child interactions.
- 4Observe, administer, and score psychological testing.
- 5Conduct structured collateral interviews.
- 6Write report sections for any components of the evaluation in which the student is involved.
Therapy
Again, we are primarily a forensic practice. All students must be permitted to serve all clients, even those who may be court involved. The clinical and training director will ensure that students do not see clients who are actively suicidal, and the student will not be expected to testify in court. All therapy cases will be reviewed by the directors before a student is assigned a case.
Students will:
- 1Co-facilitate and lead groups and workshops, when available.
- 2Provide individual counseling for adults and adolescents, at least one case per rotation.
