Durham, NC – Americans are divorcing at alarming rates. Indeed, nearly half of all marriages will end up in a divorce.  A significant portion of those will produce children who will witness the breakup of their parents’ marriage. Many of these separations can be highly contentious, requiring the intervention of family court to ensure the children’s continued well-being.

According to Dr. Katrina Kuzyszyn-Jones of KKJ Forensic & Psychological Services, this well-being is a public health issue demanding serious attention. Dr. Katrina is a clinical and forensic psychologist specializing in families going through separation and divorce. In collaboration with family court, Dr. Katrina helps separating couples develop strategies for effective co-parenting.

“We’re here to focus on what’s best for your children,” says Dr. Katrina. “Even though you may not like each other anymore, you can still get along well enough to make good decisions for your kids.”

For families in the early stages of the divorce process, Dr. Katrina’s program Divorce by Design offers counseling and mediation to allow couples to end their marriage with dignity and compassion. With a specialization in developmental psychology for families transitioning through the divorce process, Dr. Katrina can help guide children through this difficult transition.

“There is a need for this service,” says Dr. Katrina.

Dr. Katrina understands every divorce is complicated, but you can reduce the emotional stress by working with someone to help you navigate the process.

“If they can see a glimmer of the other person’s point of view, then they won’t feel like they have to defend themselves and can focus on the future,” says Dr. Katrina. “When I can help families find that sense of peace, that’s a great success story.”
